Abdon Alexander was a 30 year old farmer from Mecklenburg County, N.C., when he enlisted on 6/6/61, as a sergeant. He was promoted to 1st sergeant, 4/1/62; 2nd lieutenant, 5/1/62; and 1st lieutenant, 6/27/62. He was seriously wounded on 7/26/64, at Petersburg, Va., and was sent home to sit out the rest of the war as a result of his wounds.

The 10th Regiment North Carolina Troops were also known as the 1st North Carolina Artillery. Co. C was one of the light artillery batteries and they fought in the Army of Northern Virginia. Only one man was left in the regiment to surrender at Appomattox in April 1865
