2nd Lt. Hugh W. Barclay, of Company B, who later became Lt. Colonel of the 11th Georgia Cavalry. The second commander of the 23th Georgia was W.P. Barclay, who was killed at Antietam (17 September, 1862) where the regiment was severely mauled. Apparently, Col Barclay and 2nd Lt. Barclay were relatives.
